Kissed Again written by Countess Lola Screwvinsky |
On March 1st, Lisa gave me a challenge…spend the month "Formerly Known as Women’s History Month" writing newsletters about female artists. I love ladies and I love creatives; it should make me happy to spend 31 days thinking about the confluence. It was a simple assignment that turned into a crippling world of ten thousand rabbit holes. The painters, the sculptors, the photographers, the dancers, the curators, the performers, the writers…I was overwhelmed by the list of female names even before I went down the path of “The Georges” and the women who used other professional names. An internet search for pseudonyms, eventually, lead me to "Countess Lola Screwvinsky", AKA Beatrice Wood. Just when I thought my North Star couldn’t shine any brighter, I discovered that the woman who created a drawing titled, “The Pussy Between Us,” used a pen name to produce even racier content. So, from now on, when Lisa and I are questioning if we are pushing the envelope too far, we will no longer ask, “What would Beatrice do?” From this day forth it's, “What would Screwvinsky do?”
