Ready or not, the holidays are upon us. In two weeks, I will switch all music channels to holiday tunes. I will prepare myself to be cordial to the inappropriate "girlfriend" my brother will undoubtably bring to our family’s Christmas dinner. And, Lisa and I will head to the kitchen to make peppermint Whoops, our take on the childhood favorite candy “Whoppers.” Hand-dipped, our malt balls aren’t symmetrical, and occasionally, they’re clumped in groups. But like Charlie Brown’s little Christmas tree, sometimes traditional aesthetics need to be overlooked in favor of a deeper meaning. Our Whoops aren’t pretty, but they are delicious. And, unlike my brother’s date, they aren’t expensive.
